Luminara 2008 is officially up and running this year, with our full staff team on and our new studio space to move into!
We are ready to enthusiastically welcome you to the creation of this year’s festival as volunteers, artists, workshop participants, supporters, community partners and Luminara celebrants!

Luminara this year will take place on Saturday July 26,
starting late afternoon at St. Ann’s Academy grounds and
at dusk in Beacon Hill Park.


New Studio
Our new studio space is just across the road from the ICA offices on Balmoral Road at Quadra, in St John the Divine Hall, lower level. We are moving in on Monday, and will be opening to the public in early June, exact date to be announced soon, stay tuned! We need lots of hands to help get set up, so if you’d like to help out and get a sneak preview of the studio, please give our volunteer coordinator Satya a call at 388-4728 ext. 105 or email volunteer@luminaravictoria.com.

Volunteers make Luminara happen! Come and be part of the festival.
There's something for everyone:

Volunteer Artists
Installation artist:
Work off site or at our Open Studio sessions, producing your own designs and creations to enhance Luminara's visual impact.
(Installation artists must register with Luminara by May 23)

Artist assistant:
Assist the installation artists in the construction of their lantern
designs. This is a supporting role for those who would like to
learn more about lantern construction.

Production artist:
Drop in to the Open Studio sessions and help build, repair or decorate lanterns; accessorize costumes and take part in many other fun, creative activities.

Interactive Characters
Roam the park in costume as a living, moving, breathing work of art. Experience is not required. Enthusiasm is! Through special Open Studio sessions, we will work with you to
transform imagination into reality.
Feeling shy? We also need volunteers to assist with costume construction and headdress creation.

A Channel, our Premier Sponsor and Media Partner, who will be selling glow and taking donations for us on festival day.

Mayfair Shopping Centre is our Official Workshop Sponsor this year and Exclusive Host of the 2008 Lantern-making Workshops on the first three Saturdays in July as well as Sunday July 13. Mayfair will be host to a spectacular costume and lantern procession in the week before Luminara, more details to come on that soon.

We are also excited about our new partnership with Fairfield Activity Centre, working with merchants on Cook Street to light up the village in support of Luminara this July. A Cook Street celebration is planned for the week leading up to Luminara.

Show your Support
Luminara is a family-friendly event that relies on the
generous support of sponsors and supporters like you.
There are a number of ways to
ensure that Luminara continues from year to year:
Drop a few coins into the Donation Stations at the festival
or make a donation at the ICA office.
