Karin Scarth Project Manager

Karin is stepping into some big shiny shoes this year as she follows in the footsteps of Alice Bacon, who produced Luminara since the beginning in 2000 and has moved on this year to work with the City of Victoria. Karin is also the Executive Assistant at ICA and has been happily involved wtih Luminara for the past five years. Karin is a visual artist and has a background in arts administration.

Jeani Reynolds Visual Arts Coordinator

Jeani is now in her eighth year as the visual arts coordinator with Luminara Victoria, but she has been involved from day one - Jeani's first year was spent as an Installation Artist in the park. Jeani studied Visual Arts at UVic and is a painter and multimedia artist. 20 years in theatre doing stage design and Jeani's own visual arts practice have made Luminara a perfect fit to connect all the things she loves -- on a large scale!! Jeani loves working with the many exciting, amazingly talented artists and staff members that help make this event so spectacular.

Tracy Summers Performance Coordinator

Tracy has been the performance coordinator of Luminara for eight awesome years.Tracy's background includes over thirteen years of working in Canada's arts and entertainment scene: promoting concerts, artistic direction and talent buying, promotion and event management for events such as ICA Folkfest, Open Air in the Square and many others. Tracy's interest and passion have centered on presenting live entertainment and working closely with artists.


Shelley Motz Sponsoship & Publicity Coodinator

A freelance writer and editor by trade, Shelley Motz is no stranger to public relations or the Inter-Cultural Association (ICA). From 2003 to 2006 she developed and implemented publicity, marketing and sponsorship campaigns for ICA FolkFest and Open Air Victoria on behalf of ICA. In 2007, she was contracted by the organization to update and revise Attracting and Retaining Immigrants: A Toolbox for Smaller Centres. She is pleased to join the Luminara production team in 2008, a move that enables her to once again explore two of her favourite interests: multiculturalism and the arts.
When she’s not promoting events, Shelley writes for a wide range of clients, including all levels of government, not-for-profit organizations and business. Her work has been published throughout Canada, the US and the Middle East. It has been translated into French and Arabic.

George Scott Production Manager

George Scott is pleased to be returning to the Luminara Victoria team as Production Manager. A theatre and festival professional since the last century, Mr. Scott often works in improvised venues, but none with the beauty of Beacon Hill Park. George is the Technical Director for Victoria's Intrepid Theatre in the newly reburbished Metro Studio.

Brian Burgess Accounting Assistant

Brian is the Accounting Assistant for ICA and is responsible for the recognition of revenues and expenses; cash management; and entering and reporting on the Project budget. This is Brian's 4th year with Luminara

Ariel Rubin Studio Manager

Ariel is excited to be one of the newest members of the Luminara Studio Team. Having graduated in 2005 with a BFA from Ryerson University, she continues to create and show her photographs across the country. With a background in theatre, music and dance, and a particular fascination with the many forms found in nature, she is thrilled to be able to contribute to this year's festival...especially when it involves being elbow deep in glue and sparkles!

Logan Pellerin Workshop Coordinator & Studio Assistant

From an early age, Logan has been involved in the arts, continually exploring new media and processes. He studied Craft and Design at Sheridan College, focusing in glass. Always finding inspiration from the natural world for his artistic ventures, Logan is excited to bring nature and art together through the magic of Luminara.

Ursula Capik Marketing and Outreach Assistant

Ursula Capik joins the Luminara production team this year as the Marketing and Outreach Assistant. Before coming to Luminara, Ursula traveled throughout BC and the world, picking up a wide range of skills and experiences along the way. She has run agritourism businesses in the Okanagan and the Czech Republic, and ran a used textile-export business. She is passionate about community, culture and the arts, especially folk dancing. She is a member of Saanich International Folk Dance, and the Island Greek Dancers representing the Greek Community and performs annually at Greek Fest.

Edd Macdonald Operations Coordinator

This is Edd’s first year with the Luminara Festival. He comes to us from the Nanaimo Art Gallery where he was a curatorial and administrative assistant for six years. Besides enjoying working in the Luminara office, Edd creates objects in felt, soapstone, and pewter.

Satya Varon Volunteer Coordinator

For the past 10 years, Satya has worked in the non-profit sector to promote and inspire community participation of youth, business, government and other community organisations. She has coordinated staff and volunteers to create healthier urban environments while having fun doing it! She has delivered a wide range of public programs in metro Vancouver to diverse audiences: from... interactive education, public presentations, green business programs and filmwork to promote positive practices around climate change, forests, water and waste. She is very excited to help build community here in Victoria through the power of celebration!
